Users migrating to XP from previous versions of windows may be surprised to see that the file extensions are not shown. Even if you aren’t accustomed to it, it is good practice to show the extension of known files. This tutorial will guide you through the simple steps to show the three letter file extensions.
Open up any folder in windows (I will use My Computer)
On the menu select Tools > Folder Options.
The Folder Options Window will be displayed.
Click the View tab at the top of the window. Scroll down to the option for “Hide extensions for known file types.
Uncheck the option and then click ok to exit.
Your files should now display the three letter extensions.
