This tutorial will show you how to use a Bit Torrent client to download and share torrent files. Bit Torrent is a file sharing technology that uses a tracker file to download the actual torrent file from multiple sources.
First you will need to download a bit torrent client. The bit torrent client will be the software you use on your machine to download the actual files. There are several choices when it comes to bit torrent clients but Azureus and uTorrent are two of my favorites. It has been proven that uTorrent will use significantly less memory while downloading. So for this tutorial we will be using uTorrent as our Bit Torrent client.
First download the latest version of uTorrent (1.6.1 standalone is the latest version as of the date of this post).
Choose your connection speed and the port that you will use. Make sure to test the port to see if it is open. If it is not open, you will need to add it to your port forwarding settings on your router. Apply your settings, then click “Use selected settings” to continue.
That is it. The setup up is short and simple. Take some time to get familiar with the uTorrent interface.
In order to download a will have to find the Torrent Tracker files. You could get these from a friend, chat room, or forum. The best place to find files to download on Bit Torrent is on the web. There are tons of websites that offer torrent files for you to download. Here are a few sites that I have used used (feel free to leave your favorite site in the comments below). You can also find more by using a search engine.
Torrent Spy https://www.torrentspy.com
The Pirate Bay https://thepiratebay.org/
Mini Nova https://www.mininova.org/
So now we will have to go to the website to find the file we want to download. I will show you how to use Torrent Spy. Go the Torrent Spy website and search for the file you want. **Update: A federal judge has ruled that TorrentSpy must track its users. You may want to you a different Bit Torrent Site**
Select the file you want to download form the results
After you click the file you will be taken to another page with a download link.
Click the download button. When the download window opens, select “Open with uTorrent”.
uTorrent will open the “Add New Torrent” window. Select the directory where you would like to save the file. The default is \My Documents\Downloads\. Click OK to download the file.
You will see the file progress in the uTorrent window.
When the file is finished downloading simply navigate to your download directory and open your newly downloaded file. Of course you will be downloading legal files 🙂
